Features & Benefits of Our Hydraulic Hybrid Vehicles
Our product has the potential to add significant value to the operations of heavy vehicle fleet operators in a myriad of ways. The following provides a summary of key features of vehicles enhanced with our hydraulic-diesel technology that underpin value:
Pollution Reduction
In-house computer modelling conducted by Advanced Hybrid Solutions has shown that our hybrid trucks can reduce emissions by up to 40 percent.
Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Our innovative technology is engaged at a time when the OEM diesel would be at its most noisy and polluting stage. By installing the zero-emission product, there will be a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Installation & Maintenance Ease
Our product is available in retro fit kits ready to install. We are not aware of any other commercially available hydraulic hybrid system anywhere in the world that is available as a retrofit kit for heavy vehicles. In addition, our product can be maintained by any level two diesel mechanic experienced in hydraulics.
Fuel Cost Reduction
Vehicles equipped with our technology are most fuel efficient in frequent start-stop driving cycles, where hydraulic-powered launch and acceleration assist or replace the diesel engine’s inefficient low-speed operating range. The frequent braking and deceleration events that accompany a frequent start-stop drive cycle provide multiple energy recovery opportunities. Our research and development have shown that our product increases fuel efficiency from 20 percent to over 40 percent, depending on duty cycle and route.
Improved Vehicle Power
To assist in launching or climbing hills, the high-pressure accumulator releases the highly pressurised oil to drive the pump/motor and propel the hybrid truck. Our extra powerful hydromotor does all the heavy lifting. It accelerates the truck, which takes the strain off the main engine and transmission. This is the most demanding and wearing time for heavy vehicles. It is also the most fuel-inefficient and noisy time for a diesel engine.
Reduced Transmission Wear
Our innovative hydraulic-diesel product relieves the initial shock to the driveline components as the motor takes the initial load at takeoff.
Long Haul Vehicle Application
Our innovation has the potential to become equally as effective in long-haul heavy vehicle applications.
Quiet Operation
Under acceleration, the hydromotor does most of the work, accelerating the truck, thereby letting the OEM engine slowly come up to speed with reduced noise. The motors of our trucks are extremely powerful, relatively silent and have a lot of torque. This becomes the primary method to start the truck rolling and accelerating, even on very heavily loaded trucks. The acceleration phase is where the diesel engine is at its most inefficient and most polluting stage.
Extended Vehicle Life
Our product may extend the useful life of a heavy vehicle and thus postpone the necessity for fleet owners to purchase a replacement. The use of the product’s continually rechargeable mixed hydraulic powertrain is intended to lower the operating costs of the heavy vehicle by increasing fuel economy, reducing strain on the diesel motor and transmission thereby extending the life of the components.
Regenerative Braking
The reliance on engine braking is substantially reduced by the use of our regenerative braking feature. A vehicle fitted with hybrid hydraulic brakes is slowed under hydraulic resistance, and as such, the vehicle's brake life is extended, and the need for brake maintenance is reduced. Our technology monitors the driver’s need for braking force by measuring the force on the brake pedal. Our sophisticated algorithms let the truck brake to the same degree the driver is indicating by way of force on the brake pedal, but by using regenerative braking.
Efficient Energy Management
Our product captures energy typically wasted as heat during braking and then reuses this same energy to accelerate the truck. Our innovation is designed to capture more energy in the braking phase than it uses to accelerate the truck, thereby being able to continually assist in reducing fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions. The company's research and development have shown that this technology makes it possible to capture as much as 90% of the energy created when braking. By using state-of-the-art digital controllers developed by us, the power from the pump/motor and accumulators is seamlessly blended with the truck’s engine power to produce the most fuel-efficient combination. This all happens automatically with no conscious input from drivers – they just drive normally, and the controller provides a seamless, relaxed driving experience.
Unique Technology of Advanced Hybrid Solutions
The unit has been designed to power a truck at takeoff by using kinetic energy captured during braking. Our project uses pressurised hydraulic fluid as an additional and/or alternative power source along with the conventional diesel engine for propulsion in heavy-duty vehicles. Two separate and independent engines work in unison to propel the hybrid vehicle: one hydraulic and one diesel.
Rather than use the mechanical brakes to slow or stop the truck, our technology diverts hydraulic fluid from a low-pressure tank and pumps the fluid using the motor/pump attached to the drive shaft, into a high-pressure tank, called the accumulator. The energy captured and used to pump this fluid back into a high-pressure state is the main way the hydraulic-diesel truck stops. Hence, the mechanical brakes are only lightly used.
Then the cycle repeats. To accelerate the truck, the driver puts their foot down on the accelerator pedal and rather than have the diesel motor accelerate the truck, our technology assists and releases the high-pressure hydraulic fluid back. This, then, becomes the primary method to accelerate the truck.
By taking a different approach, our company has four identified unique processes that have stemmed from the research and development work.
